Tags, or labels, are one of the easiest and most powerful tools in Shopify. You can get a lot out of them if you use them well, and they are very easy to add and manage.
What are product tags in Shopify?
Tags are small pieces of text, usually a single word, that are associated with a product file. They usually indicate notable characteristics or data associated with the product.
In this way, added to the normal classification by product type or Vendor, which are basic characteristics of the products, the Shopify programming, the themes, and the apps can handle more information to operate with the products.
They may be unique for each product, but their power usually lies in the fact that several products share the same tag.
Where do the tags appear?
In many Shopify themes, the tags are displayed next to the product description. They complete this description and are often links that lead to pages of collections created on the fly with just that tag, as we will see in a future article.
Other times (few) they do not appear, or they are an option of the theme that appears in the Configure Theme section.
If you are choosing a Theme and you intend to use them, check first how that particular theme handles them.
How to add tags to a product?
We enter the file of a product. Shopify Admin -> Products -> All Products -> Product
In the right column, at the very bottom is the Tags section. There, below the text box, all the tags that the product has “pasted” appear.
Write the word or words you want to add as a tag in the text box. As you type, tags that you have previously included in other products will appear.
If you press the comma or enter, the tag is added to the product. But do not forget to press ‘Save’, otherwise it will not be saved.

In case you have doubts, just above the text box you have a link to a tag manager, which shows you more graphically the tags you have used previously and makes it easier for you to add them, without fear of making mistakes, to the product you are editing, especially if you already you are using many different tags.
IMPORTANT: The programming is case-sensitive. Summer is not the same as summer for Shopify
To avoid absurd problems due to an over or under the capital letter, an accent, or a misprint, use the tag selector or copy and paste from another previous product.
How to add tags to several products?

There, when selecting several products, either manually or through a search as explained here, the Edit Products option appears, also known as Bulk Editor

- If you want to make a more particular edition of each product, that is, not add exactly the same tags to all the products, you have another option:
- Clicking on Edit Products opens the product block editor and the additional fields option now appears at the top.
- There, in the first block that appears, click on tags.

Then a new column appears with the tags that the selected products already have. We can add or remove tags in that column to each product, with the help provided by the previous tags viewer.
When we finish, we click on Save all changes, and all the tags of all the edited products are saved.
How many tags can I put on a product?
The limit is quite high, I have seen products with dozens of tags (usually used more in programming than to show the client) but it is not advisable to use many. Too high a number of tags is difficult to manage and, if they are shown to the client in the theme, it can be more confusing than clarifying.
